“Said to be influenced by Dutch vernacular architecture, the gable-roofed duplex cabins, which can be booked separately or together, are a master class in clean lines and spartan simplicity.
Inside, the feeling is of Scandinavian minimalism and Shaker austerity. There are simple wood stoves, well-equipped kitchenettes, and plenty of space, with French doors opening onto small porches perfect for gazing out at the valley as night falls. Inside the 12-room farmhouse, which is where breakfast is also served, the feeling is more of classic, well-appointed Americana. “

Offering a thoughtful, high-design marriage of Scandinavian-chic and rustic Americana, this simple but excellent resort represents a welcome shift in the Catskills hospitality landscape that reflects many of the cultural changes in the big city to the south over the last several decades.
A quiet country road takes you up a gentle hill where you're greeted by a small check-in building; an elegant shop selling gifts, sundries, and comestibles; and the barn-like, cedar-clad restaurant, which does elevated comfort food with some Italian and Middle Eastern flourishes, and has quickly become a destination for the surrounding community. Beyond is a valley that resembles a painting by the hotel’s namesake, the Hudson River School artist George Inness. Generous duplex cabins line a gravel road leading to an adorable old farmhouse with more rooms and common spaces. Also on the 220 acres is a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, a pool, an enormous teepee, and walking trails. Outside the restaurant you'll find in Adirondack chairs around a fire pit guests not dissimilar from diners you’d see at Freemans, the celebrated Manhattan restaurant of impresario Taavo Somer: There are fashionably casual creative urban couples and young families, up from New York or another East Coast metropolis for the weekend.
