W. Brian Smith
W. Brian Smith designs storied buildings and interiors around the world. With over a decade of experience designing everything from brands to buildings, his projects are celebrated for their cultural fidelity and authenticity, reflecting the stories of their locations while meeting the modern needs of their users.
He consistently seeks unique opportunities to craft uncommon and enduring experiences by collaborating with dynamic developers, designers, and artists from across the globe. As a pianist and writer, Brian brings a multi-disciplinary approach to design thinking. His designs represent an alchemical fusion of writing, history, and architecture, where every detail tells a story, and every space speaks to the heart of the locale.
Brian was a founding partner of Studio Tack (2012-2021), where he led conceptual development on award-winning hotels, restaurants, retail, and wellness spaces both here and abroad. Brian also co-founded the writing essentials company Public-Supply with a mission to support the creative arts in high-need public schools. In 2019, New York Magazine named the Public-Supply notebook the best-made notebook in the world.
Brian received his Master of Architecture with honors from Columbia University. He studied Journalism, Piano, and Dramatic Arts at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previously, he served as an adjunct professor of architecture and design at Columbia University and the University of Florida.
